State-of-the-Art Production

Since 2018, bitop has operated the world's most advanced production facility for Ectoin and other extremolytes in Dortmund. This highly efficient facility ensures consistent, high quality with every batch.

Driven by innovation and a commitment to scientific progress, bitop remains at the forefront of biotechnological advancements in the industry demonstrating that sustainability and profitability can go hand in hand.

Pioneering Biotech Since 1993

Since the very first Ectoin® production in 1993, we have pioneered biotechnological production processes for the good of consumers and environment alike. By producing fermentatively instead of chemically, we are able to ensure the highest purity and reproduce many of the resources we use rather than exploiting them.

With our new production process, we are consistently pursuing this path further since we produce even more sustainably now.

Our Facility - Made in Germany

Our state-of-the-art production facility in Dortmund Phönix West  leverages advanced fermentation methods to ensure high-quality and eco-friendly production.

bitop AG holds several cerifications including ISO 13485 and ISO 14001 certifications, confirming their compliance with medical device quality and environmental management standards. Additionally, bitop received the 2021 Bronze Ecovadis Sustainability Rating and is supported by LANUV, recognizing their commitment to sustainability.

Sustainable Production

Our optimized production cuts water use by 75%, electrical energy by 52%, and CO₂ emissions by 60%. We also eliminated the need for natural gas, active charcoal, and harmful chemicals, ensuring cleaner, sustainable production.
